Jonathan Simon is a realist painter based in Atlanta, having recently
moved from New York. He is a native southerner and a graduate of
Memphis College of Art. He continued his training under Tony Ryder,
author of The Artist’s Complete Guide to Figure Drawing. Acceptance
at the prestigious Water Street Atelier brought Simon under the tutelage
of Jacob Collins and Michael Grimaldi. Simon also studied under Frank
Porcu at Studio 126, and the Art Students League of New York. He has
earned his masters degree at the prestigious New York Academy of
Figurative Art.

Jonathan is a young and upcoming artist with a growing clientele in
New York, Washington D.C. and his native Southeast. His work
includes still life, portraiture and figurative painting. He works
primarily in oil on linen canvas.

“I prefer to work from life rather than photography because it allows
me to capture the essence of the sitter and the three dimensional
depth of the subject. I work in oil because of the richness and
subtle control of light and form it affords. I have dedicated my
life to painting.”
